New Opportunities and Directions of The Development of Geothermal Industry In The New Era of China

During the "13th Five-Year" period, the heating and cooling area of shallow geothermal energy was doubled, the heating area of medium-to-deep geothermal energy was nearly tripled and the utilization amount of hot spring was continued to develop, but power generation industry was develop relatively slow. After more than 40 years of development, China's geothermal industry has achieved remarkable results; however, problems are still existed, such as insufficient technical support capabilities, disorderly development of the industry, and unclear support policies. The development of geothermal industry can not only optimize the energy structure, but also make contributions in air pollution control and oil field energy transformation. The "14th Five-Year" is a critical period for the development of China's geothermal industry. The geothermal industry will play an important role in space heating and cooling, in Southwest region power generation, and in oilfield energy transformation. China should strengthen technology research and development, standardize development order, and increase policy support to promote greater development of the geothermal industry in the new era.
