Summary of Satellite Gravity Application In Geothermal Exploration Worldwide
The gravity survey is a geophysical method that examines variations in the Earth's gravitational field caused by the densities difference of subsurface rocks. There are some types of gravity surveys, which are land, airborne, and satellite gravity survey. Some of their applications in geothermal exploration are to determine the location and geometry of the heat source and identify faults. The satellite gravity survey is less used than land and airborne gravity survey due to its relatively lower resolution. However, satellite gravity data can be used as an alternative in early geothermal exploration because it is cheaper and less time-consuming. Through literature review and stakeholder interview, this study aims to give a comprehensive summary about satellite gravity application in geothermal including types of satellite gravity data that can be used for geothermal exploration, satellite gravity data processing methods, suitability of satellite gravity data in a geothermal environment, and review on advantages and challenges of satellite gravity data in geothermal exploration.
